Ken has been a Program Director, Program and Project Manager, IT Director, Board Director, CIO and Consulting Principal for a number of major capital projects, companies, and public organizations. His expertise includes planning for, leading and managing large IT and other projects for a broad range of organizations, setting up project management offices (PMOs), planning and management of large and complex engineering projects and engineering teams, organizational change management to support major projects, alignment and engagement, advanced project management practices, and teaching and training on a range of program and project management tools, processes, and competencies. He has a Masters degree in Engineering (specializing in Project and Program Management) from the University of Calgary. Ken has extensive experience with capital and construction projects and information technologies applied to the energy industries, in areas ranging from capital construction to government to international energy exploration, retail, marketing, health care, mining, business development and production. Much of his work in the last three years has been in the areas of program and project risk assessment and reduction, and strategic portfolio management. He has recently been the Program Director/Manager for two very successful multi-million dollar implementations of major integrated Microsoft D365 ERP suites, with functionality ranging from Finance to Maintenance, for an international airport and for an environmental services company. Both of these major programs were delivered on schedule and on budget. Ken’s roster of clients includes TELUS, Nutrien, Edmonton International Airport, Tervita, MEG Energy, the City of Calgary, Canadian Blood Services, SNC-Lavalin, FGL Sports, BC Hydro, Teck Resources, Husky Energy, Alliance Pipelines, Microsoft, Volvo Construction Equipment International, Bell Canada’s 2010 Olympic Network program, the Alberta Electric System Operator, Finning Canada, Hawaii Bioenergy, and New Zealand Trade and Export Development. Ken teaches and lectures on effective leadership, IT organization and strategy, strategic portfolio management and project management, He is a recognized project management expert and top-rated speaker who is regularly invited to speak on IT, project management, and strategic portfolio management best practices to major conferences throughout the world. He was nominated for the Southern Alberta Project Management Institute’s 2005 Distinguished Contribution Award. His book, Guerrilla Project Management, based on his experiences as a PM on a broad range of international projects, was published by Management Concepts Inc. in December of 2010.
