“You can be a leader, or an excuse maker. You cannot be both. Good leaders talk about where to go. Great leaders help you get there and don’t make excuses along the way.”
This quote is not from a management consultant or leadership coach. It is from a Lutheran pastor during one of his sermons. From that sermon, three qualities of a great leader were identified:
- Passion to Inspire
- Great leaders have a passion that inspires their teams
- Pull the best from the teams to achieve results
- Centered, secure and guided by unwavering values
- Willingness to Empower
- Empower teams to make decisions and continue progress
- Delegate not only the tasks, but also the authority to complete those tasks
- Heart to Care
- Recognize the contributions of the person and what they bring to the team
- Make the person feel valued
- Don’t avoid the tough conversations; help them grow!
